There is Room in the Market for the Larger Removal Company, as well as the Smaller One

There are lots of different kinds of removal companies, from the large international firms to the one-man, man and van operation. Just because the man and van is small doesn’t make him any less efficient, effective or legitimate. At least the small business maintains a personalized hand on operations and gets to know their customers, taking a personal interest in the removal. Quite often the single man with a van is able to lay his hands on another couple of broad shoulders to help if items are particularly heavy or awkward, or there are stairs to negotiate. However, if you have decided on a removal company that employs a number of personnel you can often leave them to undertake the whole of the move, as long as you are on the premises to let them know what needs to go and what needs to stay, as well as being on hand to lock up the premises when the property is empty.
The Balance between Cost and Quality
Moving companies need to ensure they achieve a harmony between the quality of their service and the cost of their services. It is this balance between the two that ensures the survival of removal companies and makes the difference between a successful moving company and one that only offers a mediocre service. Whether you are running a small moving company or a much larger one, focusing on both price and quality will enable a small company being able to compete with their larger, rival removal company. In fact, in many cases, the small removal company often has the advantage over their larger counterparts because the smaller company can offer a more personalized service. One of the most important aspects of being a small, independent moving company is the autonomy of the personnel who have to be multi-skilled and be capable of making decisions which, in one of the larger removal firms is not quite so essential.
Larger Removal Companies
Moving company premises for larger removal companies have to be maintained which accounts for higher costs charged by the national and international companies. Aside from having to maintain office staff and other overheads which are bound to be a drain on their resources, they have the salaries to pay on a regular basis to their employees, regardless of whether the work is coming in or not. Naturally, if you have plenty of possessions to move or you are moving some distance, hiring a large removal company might make sense. However, for smaller loads you would probably be far better off with a smaller, family-run moving company that provides their customers with a personalized service and is dependent on returning business in the future.
There are certain advantages to booking a large moving company, one of which is if a specialist team is required to move particularly valuable furniture or a large and expensive concert-style grand piano. Obviously, to be able to employ a specialist team it is necessary to organize staff training which, of course, has to be taken into account when costing out a removal job. However, at the other extreme, a man and van, or a small moving company will be able to be far more flexible and adapt more readily to unusual requests or something that doesn’t fall within the remit of the larger removal company’s book of regulations.
