Handy Moves Provide Self-Storage Advice

Quite often when you are moving house it may be necessary to store your belongings for a period of time, usually in the case of the new property not being quite ready for you to move into. The answer is self-storage which is usually not as expensive as you would think. You could, of course, store your belongings at the storage facilities that most of the larger moving companies maintain. However, there certainly is a place for self-storage, even if you are using a moving company to relocate. Self-storage facilities are springing up like mushrooms around the country, taking advantage of people needing to store their property safely and securely for an indefinite length of time. This could be due to house repossession or due to the superfluity of tinier town houses that don’t have much in the way of storage facilities in the actual house itself.

Handy Moves Can Help
As ever, location is important as you don’t want to be traipsing miles just to visit the self-storage facility each time you need to collect something from the storage unit. This does need to be given some though because, if you are relocating to a completely new area, it would make more sense if you were to arrange with your moving company to use a self-storage unit closer to your new area. Handy Moves moving company can certainly help you, not just with the actual removal, but to pack securely and even move your belongings to the self-storage unit and pack your individual container safely and securely.

Apart from deciding how much space you need, you need to decide how much money you can afford to pay each month. Wooden containers set within large warehouses, both of which are independently locked, cost around £40.00 GBP per month, or around $58 USD per month: that is about the cheapest you are likely to pay. Most of these storage warehouses provide access during office hours, including Saturday, although there are some that are available 24/7. One thing that moving companies will advise you to do is to ensure you purchase standardised boxes so that they are easier to stack. Don’t forget to leave small walkways between the boxes to enable you to access them as you need to.

Further Advice
There are lots of little tricks that moving companies know about that are absolutely invaluable. These tips are generally little nuggets of information that you would simply never think about such as ensuring each box is fully packed, even if it is with scrunched-up newspaper. Full boxes are less likely to collapse due to disintegration of the boxes. Another trick to prevent rusting of any metal parts such as the lawnmower, or other tubular metal items is to place a few drops of machine oil on a cloth and rub this over all metal areas. WD40 works very well, as does a thin smear of ordinary Vaseline, or petroleum jelly. Advice such as this is invaluable if you are storing your items for any length of time.
