Man With Van is Ideal for Small Removals

To say that the removals’ industry is over-subscribed would, in many senses, be a fairly accurate description of any industry in which practically any man with van can set up in business without so much as a piece of paper that has ‘insurance’ written across it. As long as man with van have the relevant driver’s license, road tax and motor insurance they can put an advert in one of the free newspapers and obtain work in the UK without so much as a sniff around business credentials.

Cost is Obviously a Deciding Factor
Having moved a number of times over the years I would advise anybody making a house move to consider very carefully whether the money they think they are saving by a DIY house move as opposed to using a professional removal company. Most often the reason given is the implications of cost. However, if you translate stress into cost, I would more than happily pay whatever extra the professional removal company is likely to charge just to avoid any unnecessary stresses associated with moving.

Ensure Sufficient Space for a Single Load
If you are going to hire a man with a van you need to be sure that there is sufficient space in the van to load all your possessions in a single trip. Aside from the petrol wasted running backwards and forwards, you need to consider the people waiting to move into the property you are vacating. There is a tendency nowadays for keys to the newly bought property to not become available until mid-afternoon due to completion time-slots of mortgage companies. If you are unable to unload your first load until you have received your keys, by the time you return to your old property to collect the rest of your possessions you could well have another removal company van waiting to unload their load.

So the new occupants of the property you have just left cannot gain access until you have completely finished removing your property. As you can imagine, if you are moving house in winter everybody is going to end up moving possessions into newly-acquired properties during the dark, dank cold of the evenings.

Factor in Hidden Costs
So, you and your friends have taken time off work. You have hired a man with van to do the actual removals, but you have promised your mates that you will feed them in return for all their hard work. You will also have to get hold of a sufficient number of boxes to pack your possessions into. Sometimes you can get these from the supermarket, but it is usually more appropriate buying proper moving boxes that are strong enough to handle and which have handles cut out at each end to make carrying them much easier. These costs are extra to the cost of hiring a man with van and, if you decide to DIY the removals job, you will also have to factor in the hire of the van and the cost of petrol and diesel as well. I must say, from my own experience, I would budget for a professional removal company nowadays and enjoy my house move.
